About the center

Sheikh Zayed Cultural Islamic Center was founded in 2012 for the purpose of providing the Muslim community in the surrounding area with religious and cultural activities (i.e. offering different levels of Arabic language learning).

The Centre was named after the famous Muslim philanthropist Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan former president and founder of the United Arab Emirates.

Current Activities

1 – Perform the five daily Prayers, Jumo’a known as the Friday prayer.

2 – Teaching Qur’an, Islamic religion and Arabic language to children of the Islamic community through the weekend school.

3 – Teaching Arabic language for non-Arabic speakers.

4 – Teaching Holy Qur’an and Tajweed (The science of Quranic recitation) for adults.

5 – Offering Islamic lectures in jurisprudence (Fiqh) to members of the community.

6 – Offering lessons that are geared towards the youth and adolescents in order to inform and educate them concerning moderate forms of Islamic culture and traditions to better integrate their Islamic identity within both Canadian and Quebec society.

7 – Celebrating religious festivals and events such as Ramadan and Aïd.

Future Project

Building project – The center would like to acquire an appropriate location within the borough of LaSalle for an approximate cost of 600,000$ which would include the cost of the building plus the necessary renovations. Read more
